Your First Visit
Your first appointment is usually a consultation with one of our oral and maxillofacial surgeons. During this visit, we will review your medical and dental history, evaluate the reason for your referral, discuss your diagnosis, and explain appropriate treatment options.
In some situations, treatment may be performed on the same day as the consultation. More complex treatment, certain medical conditions, or procedures requiring additional planning may require a separate surgical appointment.
What to Bring to Your Consultation
Please bring the following information when applicable:
- Your surgical referral or information provided by your referring dentist or physician
- Any X-rays or imaging that have not already been sent to our office
- A current list of medications, including prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, and supplements
- Your current dental and medical insurance information
- Any relevant information about your medical history
You can also save time by completing your online patient registration before your appointment.
Medical History & Medications
Please provide complete information about your medical history and current medications. Be sure to tell us about significant medical conditions, allergies, previous problems with anesthesia, and medications that may affect surgical treatment.
This information helps your surgeon plan treatment and determine whether any additional medical information or consultation is needed before surgery.
Patients Under Age 18
Patients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian for the consultation.
If You Are Having IV Sedation or Anesthesia
Patients undergoing IV sedation or anesthesia require appropriate preoperative evaluation and preparation. Eating and drinking restrictions, medication instructions, transportation requirements, and other directions will depend on the planned anesthetic and procedure.
Please follow the specific preoperative instructions provided by our office for your surgery. If you are unsure about eating, drinking, medications, or transportation before your procedure, please contact us before your appointment.
Review instructions before anesthesia.
X-Rays & Imaging
If your dentist or physician has already taken X-rays or other imaging related to your treatment, please ask that the appropriate records be forwarded to our office. X-rays may be sent to [email protected].
If additional imaging is needed for diagnosis or treatment planning, it can be obtained at our office when appropriate.
Questions Before Your Appointment?
If you are uncertain about what to bring, whether you should take a medication, or how to prepare for your appointment, please contact our office before your visit. Our team will be happy to help.
